LA BELLE MORPHYSE

Irrefutably inspired by a provocative nude painting of Marie-Louise O'Murphy de Boisfaily. Also known as La Bella Morphyse, this seductive Lolita (at the tender age of 14) was one of the younger mistresses of King Louis XV of France.

Those intoxicating curves.
The seemingly innocent allure in her eyes.
A rosy tinge on the skin that calls like a siren song.
What a potent combination.

Little wonder old Louis couldn't say no and echoing such traits, this wrist adornment is truly a visual feast of sensual appeal combined with a girlish, almost gamine feel.

A showstopping Beaded Flower, authentic to the 1920s and in pristine condition, has been painstakingly tacked upon a bed of Black Silk Tulle, then laid upon a luscious-to-the-touch bed of Lolita Pink Silk Dupioni.

Her sides have been adorned with another heirloom from the 1920s namely an Art Deco Pure Silk Trim featuring the most darling of buds (see similar blooms in Marie-Louise's painting?) in doll-like colours.

Both top and bottom edges showcase glittering trails of rhinestones as a flirtatious (hand) Pleated Trim of Tangerine Pink Silk Charmeuse bedecks the Southward scene. Precious Silvery Purple Pearls dot the landscape amidst an amazing 19th Century Metallic Gold Bullion Fringe salvaged from a priest's vestment. I kid you not. What an heirloom.

Lined with a gorgeous Embroidered Dupioni Silk in Decadent Chocolate, LA BELLE MORPHYSE measures 5 tall and 5 7/8" in length. Secured with a pair of divine Antique Buttons, she comfortably fits wrists sized from 5.5" all the way to about 7.5".

All fabrics and findings used in Sheela Goh Couture designs (unless indicated otherwise) are antique and over 100 years old. In fact, some bits are authentic Edwardian and Victorian. Seriously. So please, do wear her with care and respect.
